Abstract

The new abstract public sculpture became in Spain an image and a precursor symbol of both political and cultural turning point in the last years of dictatorship as well as a period of political transition in peace (1975-1981). In the following years, huge abstract sculptures were taken up in urban spaces which would turn out in outstanding points of cities such as Madrid, San Sebastian, Barcelona, Valencia, Gijón or Seville later on.
