Abstract

This monograph brings together articles referring to the processes of institutionalization of service-learning in higher education institutions. These texts were selected from the total number of articles presented for the II Global Uniservitate Symposium "Service-learning, integral education and transformative spirituality", held on October 28 and 29, 2021, organized between Uniservitate and the Portuguese Catholic University, coordinated by CLAYSS and Porticus, in collaboration with the International Federation of Catholic Universities and in adherence to the Global Educational Pact. The II Symposium, which had more than 1000 registered from 45 countries, proposed among other objectives to share experiences and processes of institutionalization of service-learning in higher education institutions.

The articles show that institutionalizing service-learning involves transcending the development of isolated projects that, although they may be significant for a given historical moment, fail to permeate or transform institutional policies and cultures. Institutionalization favors the sustainability, replicability and scalability of experiences, helping to generate policies and institutional cultures that integrate teaching, research and social commitment, from an integral management.
