Abstract

This paper provides the first results in the study of basic intonation patterns of speech of "pallarès". The experimental character research has been carried out in the Laboratory of Applied Phonetics at the University of Barcelona and consists of 96 statements of spontaneous speech issued by 21 informants from different areas of Pallars Sobirà and Pallars Jussà. Intonation patterns were compared with those obtained in the description of intonation in Catalan (Font-Rotchés, 2007, 2011) and the first six patterns described have been identified as well as characteristics Catalan emphasis. The results show two new melodic features that had only been described in menorquí, the emphasis word upward-downward and the emphasis word downward- upward.
