Abstract

This article presents the results of the melodic analysis on a spontaneous speech corpus in Spanish. The aim of the analysis was to identify the melodic trends of intonational emphasis relevant to the phonologic and melodic description of the utterance /+ emphatic/. The analyzed corpus is composed of 90 utterances produced in genuine communicative situations from 37 different informants altogether (15 men and 22 women). All of these informants were anonymmous and unaware of the experiment. The utterances were analysed by our own method of Melodic Analysis of Speech (cfr. Cantero, 1999) and the results of the analysis were tested by different verification tests: synthesis of voice and perceptive tests.
