Abstract

In this article we will make a journey along the paths of communicative competence, stopping on the way to have a look at the models suggested by different authors and by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, before reaching our final destination: a description of what characterises oral language as a subsystem of human communication under the perspective of the pedagogical implications for the teaching and learning of foreign languages.
