Abstract

The important number of poetry anthologies translated from and into Galician within the Iberian Peninsula in the early years of the Spanish democracy has led us to reflect on the large trajectory covered by such texts in the literary system.

The objective of this paper is delimited to the anthological phenomenon of exporting Galician poetry towards the Spanish cultural field on the Iberian Peninsula during the last forty years. To that end, some methodological considerations delimit-ting the scope of the study have been formulated whilst trying to identify the problem areas that affect the pertinent terms in this analysis. The role played by publishing agents and companies is then examined in order to ascertain the principal strategies involved in the poetry reception process.

We are interested in knowing which texts were exported and the manner in which the Galician culture was portrayed abroad through the anthology and have the-refore analysed some paratexts published in the 1960s as an example (Genette 1982). The reasons, objectives and intentions behind the chosen format are expressed versus the current models. This analysis serves to highlight the particular nature of the lyrical anthologies, identify the publishing trends for this type of Works in a Spanish context and also to offer a provisional account of the practice of Galician poetry exports.
