• RIGOR AND IMPERTINENCE IN 'X1' (ON THE TRANSLATION OF SONNET IX BY MALLARMÉ)
DOI:

The paper analyses versologically the original sonnet (strophic configuration, meter, rhyme, lexicon, syntax) and establishes communication channels between the poem and both of its Spanish versions: “El de sus puras uñas…” (Octavio Paz) and “Sus uñas puras muy alto…” (Héctor A. Piccoli). The dichotomy rigor / impertinence poses as a problem when referring to translations which pretend themselves to be semantically, prosodically and syntactically faithful to the original, and to the fatal defection from the attempt to recreate an undecidable text.
