In this paper we’ll discuss about translating the reality of Polish cooking, apparently impossible to render into Spanish because of the lack of cultural references and linguistic equivalents.
These discussions lead to the conclusion that it is impossible to provide a reliable translation of a cooking recipe without a perfect knowledge of both cultures. Being fluent in both languages is not enough in this case, since the translator’s role does not consist only in translating words, but in an intercultural mediation.
