Theatrical Translation, Ugo Betti, Franco’s RegimeAbstract
The aim of this study is to trace the theatrical translations of the work of Ugo Betti (one of the most important Italian dramatists of the 20th century) in the Spanish theaters during the dictatorship of Franco. This task requires attention to the main parameters such as the literary genre (drama), the socio-political context, the profile of the translators or the adaptors, their conception of translation and the target audience.
Drama production (translations or adaptations), even if not published, plays a crucial role regarding the reception of a prominent dramatist at a global level.
