Abstract

The aim of this study is to trace the theatrical translations of the work of Ugo Betti (one of the most important Italian dramatists of the 20^th century) in the Spanish theaters during the dictatorship of Franco. This task requires attention to the main parameters such as the literary genre (drama), the socio-political context, the profile of the translators or the adaptors, their conception of translation and the target audience.

Drama production (translations or adaptations), even if not published, plays a crucial role regarding the reception of a prominent dramatist at a global level.
