This article aims to offer an overview of the Spanish reception of the Italian neorealist cinema from its origins, with special reference to some of the most emblematic titles, as well as directors, producers and filmmakers. Spanish cinema of the 50s adopted some of the main features of this Italian trend enabling the emergence of some titles that were central to the Spanish culture at that time. In spite of the hard ideological conditions of Franco's regime, the influence of Italian Neorealism generated a school of filmmakers who contributed to enrich the cultural heritage of our country thanks to authors such as Juan Antonio Bardem, Luis García Berlanga and José Antonio Nieves Conde.
