This article presents an analysis of the properties, characteristics and maintenance of the different materials that make up the children’s play area located in the Plaza del Poeta Boscà (Barcelona). As a first element found the floor of recycled rubber. This is composed of two layers that make them elastic and damping basis in order to avoid serious damage to potential falls of children when playing. The thickness and characteristics that must comply floor coverings in children’s areas, are regulated under the UNE-EN 1177.
The play equipment play a specific role in the development and encouragement of the skills and abilities of children, so everyone is prepared based on the role they must fulfill. In this sense, located in the plaza analyzed, games are made mainly of three materials: wood, rope and stainless steel. Each of these has been treated to meet safety standards, and once deployed in the area designated for them, they require regular maintenance to ensure smooth operation and durability.
