This paper analyses the program Lliçons de català (“Catalan lessons”), broadcasted by El Noticiero Universal (“The Universal Newscast”) and Radio Peninsular de Barcelona in 1975, which was part of the Catalan media tradition of disseminating language regulations. Making the most of radio advantages, Lliçons de català allowed, on the one hand, to offer an orthoepic model based on central Catalan, and on the other hand, to disseminate knowledge about written language (including orthographic, grammatical, and lexical aspects). Joan Badia and Josep Camprubí planned the course under study, while the Provincial Savings Bank of the Barcelona Provincial Council funded it. It respected the opinions of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans and followed the method developed by the Instituto Superior de Idiomas Campo, also applied to the teaching of other languages. The version broadcasted by Radio Peninsular de Barcelona had as hosts Maria Matilde Almendros and Esteve Bassols (the latter also write the scripts). These very same texts were published the day before by the evening newspaper El Noticiero Universal and later broadcasted by various stations in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and Andorra. The ninety-six lessons, accompanied by twenty-three tests, were compiled into a book, reprinted on several occasions.
