Action-research to develop the key competency of critical and autocritical capacity of students of different degrees at the University of Barcelona

The manuscript presents the application of an action-research to develop the key competency “critical and self-critical capacity” of students at the University of Barcelona (UB). The project was carried-out in different subjects of some Degrees of UB (Food Science and Technology, Nursery, Dentistry, Pedagogy and Chemistry) and was initiated by six novice University teachers aiming to design and to develop activities and working strategies to promote the critical and self-critical thinking of university students. This project has been carried out through an action-research process beginning in their early stages with a reflection of our own teaching practice. From this reflection we designed some activities to promote such key competency. In this work we will present the development of this project and the results obtained during the application of some of these activities in different subjects of the degrees mentioned above. These activities have allowed the students to develop their critical and self-critical thinking by working on different aspects of the subjects (specific competencies, activities, evaluation tests, etc.), as well as by being critic on their own learning process. This has also allowed us to develop one of the challenges of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) which aims to give students a greater role in their learning process.References
