Abstract

This paper analyses the results of a study made in order to discover how the oral competence is dealt with in the fourth grade of Secondary Education throughout the analysis of a prestigious textbook of English. According to the categorization of elements belonging to the oral expression and to the oral comprehension, the different types and number of activities presented in the textbook are studied altogether with the methodology proposed in order to check the development of the communicative competence in the FL classroom. Finally, the study highlights that the communicative competence is not dealt with in a consistent way in the analysed material and in reference to the guidelines that the regulations propose.
