Translation Mistakes in the Dubbing: The Case of the Film Reinas, by Manuel Gómez Pereira, into Italian

Abstract

The technological impact and the social and cultural value of Audio-visualTranslation have been the starting point of an investigation on dubbing,his characteristics and common translation problems in this field. In fact,technological progress in communication as well as the high audiencedemand in terms of image, sync and linguistic accuracy is food forthought on this TAV modality.

After a general description of dubbing and its problems, we will presentcommon mistakes and obstacles that could affect the final productthrough the analysis of the dubbed version into Italian of Reinas (2005), amovie by Manuel Gómez Pereira. We will demonstrate that the majority of mistakes made are not real problems but the result of laziness andnegligence of professionals that try to reach a perfect sync withoutconsidering the need for a real communication.
