This study deals with the translation of the Italian theater in the last quarter of the twentieth century in Spain. The analysis shows that there is not a translation model that is exclusively linked to text typology. However, there are indeed translations of various types, classes or nature, depending on the purpose or on the communicative situation of the target reader. This highlights the dependence and the central role of the target system in the process of transfer from the source language to the target language. This is shown both in translations and in versions or adaptations that have been compared.
