Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The cities portrayed by the cinema have built a visual culture which city dwellers use to identify themselves: emblematic images that make up their collective memory. But such visions of the metropolis only exist in fiction and our urban reality has little or nothing to do with them. This research offers an alternative story about the city of Paris. METHOD. From art-based research methodology, drift is used to observe and critically analyse the urban environment. The objective is to use the search for cinema posters in Paris to perceive this city in a way that bypasses the urban imaginary created by the cinema. RESULTS. The result is a female, personal and visual narrative drawn from an urban experience that opposes hegemonic, androcentric, heteronormative and European cinema discourse by using its own images. DISCUSSION. The paper concludes with a discussion of some of the problems that affect this metropolis and that European cities in general should address when considering their growth.
