Resum

A través de la figura d’Ida B. Wells, feminista i líder en el moviment pels drets civils, l’article analitza l’activisme de la primera generació d’afroamericanes que va créixer en llibertat i va accedir a l’educació superior i al món professional enmig de la primera onada de feminisme i del pitjor moment de les relacions racials als Estats Units. Basant-se principalment en els fullets, els diaris personals i l’autobiografia de Wells, l’article s’atura en la seva experiència i denúncia de la segregació quotidiana i, molt especialment, en la seva anàlisi subversiva dels linxaments com una forma de terror per a mantenir la supremacia blanca. Alhora, Ida Wells compaginava el compromís amb el “progrés de la raça” i els drets de la dona, que distingia el feminisme negre, cofundant The National Association of Colored Women Clubs (1896), mentre que amb la fundació de The Alpha Suffrage Club (1913) Wells reivindicava el valor del vot femení afroamericà en la política electoral nord-americana.

Aurora Bosch, Universitat de València

Aurora Bosch es catedrática de Historia Contemporánea en la Universidad de Valencia y ha realizados diversas estancias como investigadora en UC Berkeley, UCLA y London University. Aparte de sus investigaciones iniciales sobre la República y la Guerra Civil en el País Valenciano y, posteriormente, en la comparación del socialismo anglosajón, lleva años especializada en la Historia de Estados Unidos y la relación entre Estados Unidos y España durante los años treinta. Entre sus libros en este ámbito destacan Historia de Estados Unidos (2005) y Miedo a la Democracia: Estados Unidos ante la Segunda República y la guerra civil española (2012), ganador del Willi Paul Adams Award 2013, otorgado por The Organization of American Historians.
