INTRODUCTION. This paper investigates the importance of linking the teaching–learning process with the act of reflection, using the premise that critical thinking can help students understand and assimilate the educational practices linked to initial teacher education in the teaching of contemporary art. METHOD. After defining the research questions, the researchers used the Lego Serious Play (LSP) Method to organize a debate on artistic practices in the classroom. The Method proposes that symbolic play can be a constructor of knowledge and, therefore, a tool to channel reflective thinking. RESULTS. The narratives emerging from the debate were used to visualize significant results that made it possible to mediate between artistic practices and life experiences, demonstrating that LSP can be used to the end described. DISCUSSION. This paper emphasizes the importance of the diversity and versatility involved in the act of reflection, which enables people to initiate a process of critical thinking. It also defends the importance of revisiting play as an effective tool in adult education.References
