About the Journal

Segle XX, revista catalana d’història is a scientific journal (peer reviewed), aimed at researchers in social sciences. It is published annually, is multilingual (Spanish, Catalan, English, Italian and Portuguese) and has unrestricted access.

The Universitat de Barcelona is the publishing entity (Centre d’Estudis Històrics Internacionals -CEHI-UB-) which is recognized as the owner of the journal and as an institution does not interfere in editorial decisions in order to guarantee the editorial, academic and scientific independence of authors and reviewers of the published texts. The journal is part of the Scientific Journals of the University of Barcelona.

The governance of the journal is carried out through the established structure of the editorial team: editors, Editorial Committee and Advisory Board. The definition and effective application of the respective functions of the people who make up the journal has as its main objective the achievement of the strategic lines that the scientific journal has established.

History of the journal

Segle XX, revista catalana d’història was created in 2008. The articles it publishes are original and the result of historiographical research and debates on the main phenomena, processes and actors of the 20th century, history of the current world and history of the present, from the field of political and sociocultural history, both from a European and international perspective. Open to criticism and unrestricted theoretical-methodological debate, it also aims to help strengthen the relationship between the University and Society.

Focus, objectives and scope

Segle XX, revista catalana d’història is a publication open to criticism and theoretical-methodological debate without restrictions, with particular interest in the historical processes inscribed in the History of the Current World or History of the Present that connect with phenomena that reach the present. The treatment of these phenomena must be approached from the criteria of historical science in order to offer interpretations with solid bases.

The profile of the public it addresses is that which is part of the university world and the field of research, but there is also the will to spread the word and give a space for participation to young researchers in training.

Segle XX, revista catalana d’història also aims to help strengthen the relationship between the University and Society.

Access, structure and functionalities of the web site

Access

The accessibility of the OJS web site guarantees access to the contents of the journal and navigation through the web site. The style sheet is that of the OJS web version. 3.3. of Public Knowledge Project (PKP). The features, including information on audits, standards used and tests and technologies used, which are specified below, have been extracted and can be found in its “Default theme accessibility statement”

Structure

The OJS structure allows the management of all journal-related issues such as site creation, indexing, publication flow, editorial process, etc. The structure distinguishes:

a) the user interface:

- Home page with article index - Display of each article in PDF and HTML format - Advanced search - Contact section - Statistics - Notices - Submissions.

b) the editorial management:

- Modules for authors, reviewers, editors and administrators. - Editorial workflow - Configuration of the journal: editorial team, editorial process and editorial policies. - Administration of users and their specific roles.

Functionalities of the web

- Editorial management, allowing the submission and review of manuscripts, the assignment of reviewer staff with the follow-up of the whole process, as well as proofreading and layout.

- Publication and dissemination: assigning DOI, ISSN and metadata, with indexing in databases and integration with ORCID and Google Scholar.

- Accessibility and user experience through WCAG 2.1 accessibility, visual customization and accessible downloading in various formats.

- Security and administration: control of user roles and permissions, protection against plagiarism and data backup and restoration. 

Requeriments that research articles must meet

All articles will meet the following requirements:

  • Contribute scientific knowledge to the discipline of Contemporary History with new and innovative research.

  • Be in accordance with the editorial line of the journal.

  • Be an original and unpublished contribution.

  • Adapt to the theoretical and methodological quality criteria of the discipline, with a coherent and well-founded structure.

  • Adhere to the publication standards of the journal.

  • Use an appropriate written expression in the languages used (Catalan, Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese).

All contributions will be subject to external evaluations, as well as to the editing standards of the journal.

The articles and reviews must be original and not be awaiting evaluation in other publications with academic diffusion in any type of format and language.

Proposals may be submitted in Catalan, Spanish and English, and will be published in the original language, although in some cases, exceptionally, Segle XX may provide translations.

The contributions received are:

  • Original and unpublished scientific articles.

  • Proposals for dossiers on historiographic debates and dialogues.

  • Reviews of books published in the last 3 years.

Post Frequency

Annual issue published in the first quarter of the year of last publication. The contents of the journal are published in this annual issue with its table of contents.
