This special issue of Transfer brings together a series of articles that are the first fruit of the research project Forbidden Literature. The censorship of Italian books in Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries, whose purpose is the critical study of the censorship of Italian literature in Spain during that crucial period of European history,. It takes into account not only strictly religious censorship (of religious doctrine), but also, on the other hand, that censorship referring to political and ideological issues or derived from religious morality, as well as specifically literary and textual cersorships (that is, the ideological manipulation of the translator and the self-censorship, imposed or not, of the own author).
