Resum

Aquest article estudia l’actuació del prestigiós historiador de l’educació Brian Simon al capdavant del Comitè Nacional Cultural del Partit Comunista de Gran Bretanya. Després de la crisi provocada per la invasió d’Hongria per l'URSS en 1956, Simon es posà al servei del partit per a contrarestar els efectes del naixement de la New Left. En 1957 entrà en el Comitè Nacional Cultural al costat de James Klugmann i Arnold Kettle, i el dirigí a partir de 1962. Al capdavant del grup intel·lectual conegut com els humanistes socialistes, Simon va liderar la renovació ideològica del comunisme britànic al llarg dels seixanta, des de l’ortodòxia estalinista fins a posicions pròximes a l'eurocomunisme. Una fita en aquesta evolució ideològica va ser la publicació en 1967 de Questions of Ideology and Culture.

Antonio Fco Canales Serrano, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Doctor en Historia por la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona y catedrático de Historia de la Educación en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Su investigación se ha centrado en la historia de España del siglo XX con especial atención a la educación, la ciencia y el género. Es co-autor del libro Brian Simon and the Struggle for Education (London: UCL Press, 2023), autor de Las otras derechas (Marcial Pons, Madrid 2006), editor de Ciencia y política en la España de la primera mitad del siglo XX (Madrid: Plaza y Valdés, 2024), co-editor de La larga noche de la educación española (Biblioteca Nueva, Madrid, 2015) y Science Policies and Twentieth-Century Dictatorships (Routledge, Londres, 2015). Ha participado en diferentes proyectos de investigación sobre la política educativa y científica del régimen franquista y en la actualidad lidera el Proyecto Nacional de I+D El giro copernicano en la política de educación y ciencia en el desarrollismo franquista: de la subsidiariedad a la intervención estatal (PID2020-114249GB-I00). Ha sido secretario (2013-2019) y director (2019-
2023) de la revista Historia y Memoria de la Educación y miembro del Comité Ejecutivo de
ISCHE (International Standing Conference for the History of Education) (2019-2023).
