Transfer, e-Journal on Translation and Intercultural Studies

TRANSFER is a bind double peer-reviewed, indexed and bilingual academic journal (Spanish/English) with international scope. This electronic open access journal is published annually in its second stage, since 2011. It is published by  CRET (University of Barcelona). The journal accepts submissions of unpublished essays and reviews on Translation and Intercultural Studies, as well as unpublished translations. Occasionally it also accepts originals in Italian, French and Portuguese.

TRANSFER is conceived as a forum for scientific discussion and debate, and an  international platform for the dissemination of research on translation, cultural mediation and intercultural relations. It deals both with a theoretical approach to translation, and its practical applications in the context of globalization and the increasing number of contacts between different languages and cultures. The journal offers different sections: 1) essays on translation and intercultural studies, 2) reviews, 3) unpublished translations and 4) news of interest to researchers and scholars in this field.

TRANSFER is in line with the developments that have been taken place in Translation Studies since the 90s of last century. In an increasingly globalized world characterized by transnational communication at various levels, translation acquires a new relevance. In addition, we must also take into account other recent phenomena as the cultural hybridization, the diaspora cultures, and the mobility/instability of concepts such as identity (including gender), all of them largely observed since the end of the 20th century. From this point of view, translation is defined not only as a simple rendering between languages, but as a complex process of mediation that, on the one hand, is not neutral, and, on the other, is not limited to a mere passive transmission of meaning. Rather, it is revealed as an essential feature in the creation and spreading of cultural content and values, all of which requires a necessary revision of the traditional approach to translation, and namely to the concept of “fidelity” to the original.
